Compare website quotations by scope, not the headline figure

Foxbyte InsightsPublished Updated

Website design moves from understanding an offer to deciding and making an enquiry.

Compare website quotations using the same scope and time period. A lower headline amount may exclude content, recurring services or a customer journey that another proposal includes.

Normalise the deliverable

List the actual pages, forms, content responsibilities and any store or integration work. “Ten pages” can describe ten simple content pages or a much broader application journey. Ask what each page includes and where the allowance ends.

Separate blog structure from a written article library. Likewise, distinguish a store installation from complete product preparation, provider onboarding and fulfilment configuration. These differences affect the work and should remain visible in the comparison.

Use a quotation comparison sheet

ItemWhat to compare
Build scopePages, forms, revisions and agreed functionality.
ContentWriting, editing, upload, photography and asset licences.
StoreProducts, categories, supported payment and shipping scope.
Recurring costsHosting, domain, licences, maintenance and external services.
AcceptanceActual journeys and environment checks included.
HandoverAccess ownership, training and documentation.
ChangesHow additional work is estimated and approved.

Read the payment and schedule together

Identify the full project amount, deposit and remaining balance. Ask what establishes readiness and the written start date. Payment verification, complete materials, authorised access and available capacity may all matter to the delivery schedule.

For Foxbyte’s website packages, the authoritative cards and written quotation provide the current terms. This article deliberately does not create another price catalogue. Use the package page for the approved Foundation, Growth and Commerce comparison.

Calculate a realistic first-year view

Add clearly quoted one-off and recurring costs for the same period, keeping optional items separate. State billing currency and renewal assumptions where relevant. Ask for confirmed tax treatment instead of assuming it from a rounded headline amount.

Do not treat a recurring support line as interchangeable with a software licence. One may provide a tool; another may include defined human work. Compare the specific responsibilities and exclusions before deciding which offer meets the business need.

Choose the proposal you can verify

  • Resolve ambiguous inclusions before accepting.
  • Ask how the main customer journey will be demonstrated.
  • Confirm who owns domain, hosting and administrator access.
  • Identify unsupported features or provider dependencies.
  • Keep any extra requirement in a written scope change.

Price matters, but clarity determines whether the comparison is meaningful. A proposal should make the promised outcome and the customer’s preparation understandable without requiring assumptions about what “complete website” means.

Put the decision into practice

Compare the current package cards, then discuss any requirement outside their stated allowances.
