Describe when a laptop becomes hot or noisy and whether it shows distress. Ordinary warmth under load and a swollen battery or repeated thermal shutdown are different situations.
First distinguish a safety concern
If the case is swelling, there is visible damage, smoke or another electrical hazard, stop using the affected equipment and follow its manufacturer’s handling guidance. Do not press or puncture a swollen battery or attempt to force it out. Arrange qualified assistance.

Check the obvious without dismantling
Use the device on a firm surface and keep its external ventilation clear. Follow the manufacturer’s cleaning and handling instructions for the model. Do not insert objects into vents or open components to improvise a repair.
Review ordinary workload observations through familiar supported tools if the device is otherwise safe and stable. A high workload can explain some heat, but it does not establish that every fan or cooling symptom is normal. Avoid universal temperature claims that ignore the model and measurement method.
Ask for an evidence-based recommendation
A technician may need to assess airflow, cooling components, power behaviour or software load. Ask which observation supports the proposed work and what will be checked afterward. Cleaning, part replacement and software changes are different interventions.
Do not accept disabling a protection mechanism as a routine cure. The goal is a device that performs the required work under its supported operating conditions, not one that merely stops displaying a warning.
Prepare the repair handover
- The model and exact recurring symptom.
- Conditions and tasks that reproduce it.
- Any warning or shutdown behaviour.
- Visible damage and previous work.
- Data priorities and separate backup status.
After assessment or repair, repeat an agreed representative task under appropriate conditions. Record the result and any remaining limitation. Neither a brief idle test nor a quiet fan alone proves that the original problem has been resolved.
